It's The Only Way

ahoy! Our chart of 'tracks to do' is almost full of check marks and we're about to get into mixing mode. We have horns, strings and a saw player coming in Saturday so that should be interest and possibly unnecessary. . . but we'll see! Besides recording I've had the chance to experience Montreal on day to day basis(not playing a show for one night and getting wasted) and it's full of great restaurants, cool bars, awesome people and beautiful artwork. Apparently there's a giant drum circle on Sundays with sword fights and other games which sounds like it could be a new weekly routine for myself.

The other night I went to see my friends band Dinosaur Bones play and they totally killed it. It's truly impressive when you can play your bass on the bar while getting a kiss from the bartender and stealing the spot light from a stuffed deer that just arrived over a dudes shoulder in the crowd. This was also the first time I've seen/heard of The Darcys and they had some reallllly rad songs. Check em out!

The Checklist

As our checklist fills up, so does our excitement for finishing the album. As I type this the first vocal track is being done, which means songs are actually starting to sound like songs and the foundation of the album is starting to form. Howard and Bryan are doing a great job, we're super pumped to have them on board and can't wait to watch this thing progress.

I'll be posting a video of a new song (acoustic version) that we did here within the next 24 hours so check back soon.

Day 4 is officially Nathan day, which means it gives us some more time to waste. So far we've done 12 bed tracks and are starting over dubs, we're soo pumped on how it's sounding so far and can't wait to blow your eyes off.

Hay hay hay. . . Brian took over a session solo and our sound has taken a darker direction. Our songs of happiness and optimism have slid into a depressing rut of nihilism and I think the one man producing session may have had something to do with it. Anyway here's a photo of him.

Starting off day number two after last nights "that's not my cat" incident where we let a suspicious devil cat into the house we're staying at. Things on day 1 went as smooth as watermelons and we made a new friend named Emma (above photo), she's so0 chillinnnn!

Due out later in 2010, the yet-to-be-named album will feature the co-production team of Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Wolf Parade, Godspeed You! Black Emperor) and Brian Paulson (Wilco, Beck, Slint, Dinosaur Jr.), two of North America’s most established indie rock producers.
